A new trailer for HBO’s Tina Turner documentary, Tina, has simply been launched, and it options the music icon sharing a painful reminiscence from her childhood.
“My mom used to take a seat within the window of the kitchen when she was making dinner on Sundays. I used to only watch her; I assumed she was so fairly. At some point, she wasn’t in that window,” says the 81-year-old legend in a voiceover, recalling when her mom deserted the household when Tina was simply 11. “She was by no means in it once more. I needed her to return for me, and I waited. She by no means did.”
Tina’s voiceover, which now sounds prefer it was recorded at a completely different time, continues, “And it is all proper. You understand why? I am a lady from a cotton subject that pulls myself above the destruction and the errors — and I am right here for you!”
The voiceover is ready to a montage of photos of Tina all through her profession, from her humble beginnings, to her time together with her abusive ex-husband Ike Turner, to her struggling solo years and eventual emergence as a worldwide celebrity within the ’80s. All through, we hear Tina sing one in every of her signature tunes: Her cowl of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Proud Mary.”
Tina debuts Saturday, March 27 at 8 p.m. EST on HBO and will probably be obtainable to stream on HBO Max.
